EROSION CONTROL

Project:
Homebush Bay Creek Diversion

Location:
Olympic Site, Homebush, Sydney

Client:
Ward Civil Engineering

This project involved the diversion of a creek adjacent to the State Softball Centre and NSW State Sports Centre at Homebush Bay.

The new line of the creek allows for a number of a different flow channels, which are supported by 1m x 1m box gabion sections. The length of this diversion is approximately 850 lin.m with a total gabions volume of approximately 1900cu.m and 1400sq.m of Reno mattress on the spillway.

The scope of works included supply all gabion cages, labour and plant for this job. Ward Civil Engineering Pty Ltd carried out all bulk earthworks.

To meet the clients programming requirements we varied production by increasing and then subsequently decreasing the on-site personnel. This programming was achieved despite the difficulties encountered in:

  • Limited access
  • The curved nature of the alignment of the wall
  • Works carried out on a contaminated site
  • Inclement weather
Further works were completed for the client following the successful completion of this challenging project.
