Case Study
Helensburg Slip
RETAINING WALLS
Project: Terramesh Wall
Location: Helensburg Slip Repairs, NSW
Client: State Rail Authority
This project involved the construction of two Terramesh retaining walls at the toe of railway embankments at Helensburgh in the south of Sydney.
During January State Rail Authority had a shutdown on the South Coast line to carry out remedial works. Part of these works was to repair two slips on railway embankments located at Helensburgh.
At the locations required, a Terramesh gabion wall was constructed at the toe of the embankment to stabilised a slip circle failure.
Total volume of these walls was 780cu.m.
Access to the site was very difficult with only one road being able to be cut into the area due to environmental concerns. Along with this limited access there was also the problem of the tight program, which had to be maintained due to the rail shutdown. These works were on the critical part of the SRA's construction program. To achieve the required production we mobilized two crews on a seven days a week roster to complete both walls.
Construction of the gabion walls was completed ahead of schedule and to the satisfaction of both the client and the client's geotechnical consultants.
