Case Study
Alpine Way, Thredbo
GABION & RETAINING WALLS
Project:
Alpine Way Restroration
Client:
Haskins Contractors
Principal:
National Parks & Wildlife Service of NSW
Following the Thredbo landslip a significant portion of the Alpine Way above Thredbo village had to be reconstructed and improved. This work included the construction of a series of massive gabion and Terramesh structures both above and below the Alpine Way. These walls varied in height from 1-8m.
Approximately 12,000cu.m or 24,000 tonne of gabions were installed during the summers of 1998-2001. The initial work was completed by crews from Terra Services a company which was subsequently taken over by Earthtec in July 2000.
The experience gained during the previous works engaged to continue with further sections of gabion construction making this the fourth summer in Thredbo for some of our personnel.
